Fifty years well...well... I have been a social worker for the last 43 years. I decided to retire last year and I am presently exploring options for volunteer work and possible part-time work. I have spent most of my working years living outside of Chicago, a city I dearly love. I was married for 17 years when my husband died of cancer. I have two wonderful sons: Adam 36, who has his MBA and manages tax software for a major global corporation. He lives in Chicago and is an avid sailor and enjoys traveling the world. Noah 33, completed his M.D.Ph.D. and is working on his fellowship at Northwestern in oncology and hematology. Noah recently got married. As you can see, I'm a very proud mom. I enjoy town-home living which leaves me time to do what I love: travel, attend the symphony, plays, and most of all, be with friends. Life is good!

Charles William Simi, “Chuck” to all who knew him, 70, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, February 3, 2020, at North Memorial Hospital following a cardiac arrest.

Preceded in death by his parents, William and Verna (Wuollet) Simi and sister Carol Simi.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Alice (Riedemann) Simi; his son, Troy and his wife, Jolene (Aydt); his daughter, Carrie; his grandchildren Shauna Simi and her fiancé Briana Jorgensen, Caitlin, Derek and Nathan; his brother Dennis Simi and his wife Del; his sister Jan Seiferd; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

Chuck was born and raised in North Minneapolis. He graduated Robbinsdale High School with the class of ’67. In June of ‘68 he met his soon-to-be wife, Alice, who he married in May of ’69. He was drafted into the army shortly after.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart, two Bronze Service Stars, and the Army Commendation Medal.

When considering his career prospects after the war, he chose an education program at Control Data Institute, his primary consideration being a dislike of the heat and noting computers needed air conditioning. Thus he went on to become a “hardware guy”. He spent 30 years building printing systems, and then managing the people who built them for Hagen Systems.

Chuck had many hobbies, including reading (Stephen King was his favorite), hunting, fishing, and all kinds of sports, both watching and playing. He particularly enjoyed music, played guitar for fun, and in his later years loved to spend afternoons singing along to the jukebox with friends. He was an immensely proud dad and grandpa who relished family bonfires and had an endless supply of “dad jokes”.

A celebration of life will be held at the Anoka American Legion on Saturday, March 7th. There will be a short ceremony including military honors at 11am, followed by lunch and open house through 3pm. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to the National Veterans Foundation.

Greetings to all. Where has the time gone? I've not been to a RHS reunion since the tenth reunion (and remember dancing the night away and not wanting it to end!)

However, there's some anxiety as I sign up for the Friday night event at the former high school. Will I know anyone? Will anyone remember me?

I attended the former Adair Elementary school and remember hosting some wild slumber parties while living with my family on 39th and Welcome, Robbinsdale. We moved to 31st and Edgewood Drive, Crystal, and then attended, Sandburg Middle School. I remember dances held upstairs at the police station hosted by the Robbinsdale Police Department; The A and W drive-in on Hwy 100; Bernie's Deli, Porky's, and more. It was a difficult time as my parents divorced. It was also the Golden Sixties.

High school was a blur. The Robin's Tale newspaper provided great opportunities for connecting with other students. I also remember a Chicago trip with other newspaper kids and I think I won a national award for something. High school friend Vicki Roope Walden's dad, George Roope (and, Robbinsdale Police Chief) would pick us up in a squad car at the RHS front door following the dismissal bell. What were we thinking? Vicki and I are still friends. She and Jerry currently live in Florida.

Following graduation, I attended Minnesota State University, Mankato and graduated with a BS in secondary education, English, Speech Communication. I ended up teaching speech in a Minneapolis Fortune 500 company for nearly 30 years. I have sent many rehearsed company executives to Wall Street for their presentations. Go figure.

While a RHS senior, I met Bruce Forbes on a blind date, arranged by one of my student newspaper friends, Marsha Covell. We dated for nearly eight years. Now, we've been married for 42 years; currently retired; and, spend winters in Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo, Mexico. That's fifty years of togetherness!

We have one daughter, married, with two grandchildren, three and seven years old. I am a U of M Extension Master Gardener and have planted over 1,000 trees. See you on Friday October 6 at RHS!

Seems like only yesterday we were passing each other in the hallways of RHS, but time has passed and memories of home, family, friends, school and community live on. Life was far less complicated by today's standards, but as one traveled and explored the many roads of life, lessons learned made us who we are today. Life is a blessing for each of us to live, love and enjoy daily.

Married to Paul; 2 stepdaughters, 7 grandkids.

After graduation I went to Bemidji State College where I met my husband. We have two children and three grandchildren. I worked at St. Gerard Church in Brooklyn Park, MN for 29 years before retirement in 2014.

Currently we spend much of our time going to soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball and basketball games where our grandchildren are playing. They keep us very busy!

We enjoy traveling, golf with old friends and family time.

I live in Owatonna Minnesota with my husband of 38 yrs. We have 4 daughters all living in Owatonna with their husbands and 8 beautiful grandchildren and number nine due any day. After high school I attended college and meet my husband at Pillsbury Bible College here in Owatonna. We were married and one year later he was in the United States Army and serving in the White House as a photographer to the president. We were there for 3 and half years when he got a call from Pillsbury that he could come back to play football and we were again in Minnesota. Upon graduation he was a youth pastor in Texas when again Pillsbury called and ask that he come back and start up a photo program for them. We did and I started a daycare for students and staff and continued in that for 20yrs first at the college and then in my home. Then as my girls say I went and got a real job as a chemical control operator for Truth Hardware here in Owatonna. We make mostly window hardware. I also work part time for Lowe's because I have a 150 yr old house that we have totally redone inside and out. I didn't make it to the last reunion but plan to be there this year.

Update as of 2016: Retired, finally, and now a grandfather of Lincoln Tejune Stableski, born September 2014 and who lives too far away with his parents in White Plains, NY. Being retired means I'm on the board of the Neighborhood Association, on a couple of condo association committees, and on the AFS national Board of Directors--which all add up to a part-time job!

In 2011, after 40 years living on the East Coast and abroad, I moved back to Minneapolis in February (how crazy is that). As I grew older, having contact with "home" seemed a good idea, as I never succeeded in becoming a real New Yorker or Washingtonian.

Had a nasty bout with lymphoma, chemo for nine months, and learned how I look when bald. But that has passed, my hair is back, and I'm riding my bike around the lakes and have plenty of energy. I love being back in Minnesota and even enjoy the weather, not so beastly hot as DC, and plenty of crisp winter air!

More factoids: Was married for 16 years, divorced before our 25th reunion, and a single dad for years. Spent most of my professional life in managing or consulting for not-for-profits, especially those in international education.

40 years......what a ride (rollercoaster?)
The beer business for the past 35 years has been good to me..(tough job...but someone has to do it). Carol and I have a blended family of four kids and seven grand children. We have had our Florida retreat for three years and try to get there for golf 4 or 5 times a year. Unfortunately, business has me out of town for the reunion, but I will be thinking of those days (especially the train trip).
I hope this time of life is terrific for all.

and finally fully retired in April 2019.

In May 2017 we moved to Oro Valley, AZ, near Tucson.

Our two children are in Chicago but the cold is not in our future.

Have a small travel trailer to travel around the west and down the Baja.

I started out with the class of 67, but left school in the tenth grade. Joined the Marines, served in Vietnam, came home, got married to my sweetheart, Diane Smith (an Edina girl), and returned to school at the U of M. Graduated law school in 1977. Now retired, enjoying our five grandchildren. In the words of Joe Walsh, "Life's been good to me so far..."
