Richard "Dick" Forsman passed away in Lincoln, NE on 5/2/2019 after a painful ten-year battle with complications from abdominal necrotizing fasciitis and COPD.

He was born in Anaconda, MT in 1949, but grew up in Minnesota attending the Robbinsdale school district where he played football and baseball. Following four years of service to his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, including two tours in Vietnam, he worked primarily in human resources and labor relations for Burger King, Donovan Companies and National Car Rental.

He played slow pitch softball for the Marauders team in the Twin Cities for 14 years, but golf became his passion, Dick said, "He only worked to pay for golf." He and Terry lived on the TPC at Heron Bay in Fort Lauderdale, FL for nine years where he founded Madeline's Gift, an annual golf tournament to raise money for the five young children of a golf club employee who was murdered. They then moved into the Heritage Eagle Bend community in Denver, CO where he founded the Monday Fun Group for men and women golfers within the community of all skill levels to enjoy time with their neighbors for a quick nine holes and dinner/social hour(s).

Dick is survived by his loving wife Terry of Lincoln, NE; son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Nicole Forsman of the Twin Cities, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Kelle and Steve Bell of Denver, CO; daughter Lisa Garcia of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Emily and Kelsey Bell and Blake Garcia. The deceased is preceded in death by his mother, Fran Forsman, and brother, Bruce Forsman.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project. A military burial will take place at Fort Snelling on June 7th at 1:15pm, please arrive at least 15 minutes early.

A celebration of life will take place at Heritage Eagle Bend in Denver, details forthcoming.

Who wrote the script for aging and reunions (years married, children, grandchildren)? I was glad to find some familiar names, but missed some others: Steve Hazelrigg, Joe Fischer, Steve Alm (but at least he calls me)? I never knew many of our 1000 graduates, and can't remember names of some I did.
Statistics: 36, 2, 0.
I'm in Duluth - love it. Work for husband - weird. Hear from my kids when they need something - normal. Long ways from retirement - darn. Won't be at the reunion -will be in Vietnam, of all places.

2011 Years go by, things change. I miss Steph every day. Now retired (unexpectedly) and trying to find things to fill some very unplanned time.

I have lived in the Chicago area since high school when I left for Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. My career has been in information technology with a financial focus. Since 2000, I have been working as a project manager on the business side of Northwestern University. My office is next door to my freshman dorm. Maybe I am not as adventurous as I thought! I still have not overcome my tendency to volunteer for everything, so if anyone wants to commiserate about the joys of being the president of the condo association or the church council or being on this or that board or committee, email me and we can start a support group.

My twins left the Chicago area for college, returned for graduate/professional school, but sadly have left town again. Elizabeth (Betta) works in healthcare compliance out of Minneapolis (!) and Scott and his wife Meghan are doing their residencies at the University of Iowa medical center.

This is the reason I hate having my picture taken.

Married to Don for 38 years, until he passed away in 2015.

I did not know many people in high school and, regrettably, have not kept in contact with those I did know.

I am retired, and I enjoy the freedom it allows me very much.

High school had a big influence on my life. I met my wife, Nancy Fellger Gustafson at Robbinsdale. I discovered I liked chemistry and it became my major in college and my career. I was a member of the band and also played guitar in a rock and roll band. Music is my main hobby. I was first exposed to languages and humanities at Robbinsdale. They have become life long interests.
The great thing about Robbinsdale was the environment. Nerds like me thrived there.
The picture is my family at the Guthrie Theater on August 24, 2007.

I came to Chicago to attend college and have spent most of the time since graduating, here. I'm happy here – so much diversity, such great food. I travel to Minnesota a couple of times a year and in so many ways it still feels like home.
I spent 18 years producing videos mostly of the non-glamorous corporate type. I left that to pursue a classic sort of dream come true experience and opened Barbara's Kitchen, a lovely, small, neighborhood restaurant. Meatloaf (great meatloaf) was the signature dish – really. I lost my lease after 7 years and now work as the marketing coordinator for a small manufacturing company run by folks with a lot of integrity and a challenging entrepreneurial spirit.
I'm married to a great guy who likes food as much as I do and comes from a wonderful family that has welcomed me. We share interests – traveling, sports (as spectators), and family. I have a most terrific son, Andy, who lives in Madison. We are very close so I'm grateful to have him near geographically. My step daughter, the lovely Morgan, lives just a few miles away.
Grandchildren will be way welcome when that happens – I'm ready for that phase.
I think this RHS get together is going to be a lot of fun. I am looking forward to it.

The "Now" picture of me was taken on an Alaskan cruise a couple of years ago. Magnificent is the only word that comes to mind to describe our most northern state. Travel is the reason I am still working as a Medical Technologist (now officially known as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-what a mouthful) at University Hospital in Mpls. Night shifts. Late night shifts.
I am still living in South Minneapolis, but have vague longings to migrate, at some point, either to Washington state, or New Mexico. We'll see.
My "kids" are two SharPei/??? mixed-breed dogs who are totally spoiled, although they usually know who's the boss, especially if I'm holding the treats.
Looking forward to seeing familiar faces, and maybe some new ones, and participating in some catching-up in October.

Single, with 2 wonderful dogs!

I was married for 30 years and have two wonderful children, 26 and 29. I am currently going through divorce...it's a long, difficult story. Graduated from Mankato State with a degree in Home Economics, and have worked in many different fields, including retail sales, retail management, power machine sewing (all in Minneapolis), VISTA volunteering(Omaha, Nebraska), bakery clerk, florist (Onamia, Minnesota), grocery clerk and night manager, librarian (Hawley, Minnesota) and now concierge in a senior apartment complex in Minnetonka. I live only a couple of miles from old RHS and my family home, which was across the street, is now several blocks south! I see them both often.
Recently I purchased a condo in Crystal, and am enjoying making it my own. My son is nearby in Coon Rapids and my daughter is in Fargo. I knit, sew, read and like to be resourceful by shopping at thrift stores...you never know what you will find! I don't think I will be at the reunion, but would enjoy hearing from anyone who remembers me.

After high school, I graduated from U of Minn in 1971 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. I then worked in Washington, D.C. from 1971-1980 for Naval Air Systems Command. While in college, I took up rock climbing and have done that since 1968. I moved to Boulder, Colorado for the climbing and worked for BLM (1980-1983) and then US Dept of Commerce - Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (1983-2005). I then retired and play golf every day (handicap 1.8) and still rock climb. I have been married since 1975 and have 4 daughters (Erika, Stefanie, Edith, Therese) and 4 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. Three daughters work as engineers for Lockheed. They take after their mother who has a PhD in engineering.
