I have been living in San Antonio, TX for the past 35 years. Married Marc in 1990. Our daughter, Alison, is a school psychologist and her husband Andrew is a HS English teacher. Alison is adopted from South Korea and Andrew is a red-headed Englishman. Their 2 kids are a great combination of both!

My career has been in publishing, specializing in school programs for a diverse classroom. I have officed in San Antonio but have worked remotely as VP, Creative Director for Hampton Brown Books in Carmel California. They were purchased by National Geographic in 2005 and I became SVP of National Geographic School Publishing. No travel to remote locals like Madagascar, but lots of time spent in Chicago, New York, DC, and the California Bay Area. In 2010 I went to work for a publishing development company in NY and Delhi, India. Again, no foreign travel but lots of SKYPE. It has been challenging and fun to experience working with different cultures (both NYC and India!)

I semi-retired (3 weeks ago) and am looking forward to more activity and more free time. Marc retired from a career in printing sales and is an avid sailor. We have a boat in Austin and I'm trying to “learn the ropes”. We pick the grandkids up from school twice a week and really enjoy this special time. We joined the YMCA and are attending the senior exercise classes. Never an athlete, it seems I have finally gown into my ability level. Marc and I are getting involved in local politics and have worked on the mayor’s campaign (he won!). We also joined Battleground Texas, who’s goal is to register voters in Texas. Retirement is looking busy!

I look forward to seeing everyone for the 50th!

December 2015 update: Retired, divorced since September, currently live in a Senior Apt complex just north of Fond du Lac (bottom of the lake, Lake Winnebago, approx. the same size as Mille Lacs.
I still enjoy racing 1/24 slot cars (remember the track at Moeller's across the street from the old cop/fire dept?). Used to enjoy golf but probably haven't played in more than 13 years. Might give it another shot next year. Had bariatric surgery in 2012 and I'm down about 140 lbs from my high but only up about 15 lbs from when we graduated.

2017: Randy and I still winter in Lady Lake, Florida at Water Oak. I consider it to be paradise. Summers are spent in our Edina condo or rehabbing a dilapidated cabin in N. Wisconsin. I'm still writing stories/books and researching genealogy. Two kids and 4 grandchildren keep us busy and happy.

So I will update this, as I am planning to make it to the reunion next month. Haven't signed up yet ... but I will. My wife Janet will probably head out to Los Angeles to see my daughter, Mallory. Mallory is a publicist for the reality programs on CBS. Big Brother, Survivor, Amazing race. I am still self employed but scaling my schedule way back. I have become a rabid UW Badger fan as my wife and Mallory are both UW Alumni. Been to 3 Rose Bowls and I hope to go to another this year.

I married Jill -- a '72 Cooper graduate -- and we have 5 adult children in a blended family and 9 amazing grandchildren: Gracie, Marissa, Raegan, Taya, Whitney, Aiden, Brynn, Raelyn, and Mylah Joyce.

We have lived in Andover MN for the past 31 years and love it. I am a retired meat cutter from Cub Foods, and my wife is a semi-retired school teacher for the Osseo School District. We enjoy traveling, boating on the lake, walks in our beautiful neighborhood, and spending time with our wonderful family.

Favorite memory: The class trip to Sauk Center.

DEREK DAN McKAY
Derek was born February 12, 1949 to Tom McKay, Sr. and Jean Tarbell. He is survived by his wife, Maggie (Baltus) and his sister, Nadine McNeill. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tom and his sister, Diane. Derek was an active member of the IBEW Local 292 Minneapolis Electrician's Union. He loved working with the Brotherhood and being there when asked or needed. Derek converted to Catholicism, after many years of attending Mass with Maggie. He chose St. Anthony of Padua as his Patron Saint. He enjoyed going to Mass and used the teachings to better his life. He was always seeking to become a better person in every aspect of his life. Derek had varied interests and became quite accomplished in several. He loved boats, water and snow skiing, scuba diving, kayaking, golfing, machinery of any size (the bigger the better) and most new challenges. Derek was very visual and often noticed unusual beauty of God's creations. He loved flowers and was in awe at their amazing intricacies. Derek had a wonderful sense of humor and his own manner of expressing thoughts that made people smile. He had a remarkable sense of adventure and curiosity. Maggie and Derek were married April 5, 1992 in Minneapolis, MN. Disheartened by a cold MN summer, they left in a rectified motorhome and sought out to find a more suitable climate to call home. They spent the next year on this adventure and stopped in Nokomis, Florida, weary yet warm. They ended up settling in what was then a little fishing village and continued to live in Nokomis for 28 years, making many friends and second families. After retirement they came back to Minneapolis for the summer and fall and enjoyed both homes. Until we meet again, we will miss you, Derek! Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 5th, 2022, at 2:00 PM @ St. Hubert's Catholic Church, 8201 Main Street, Chanhassen, MN with visitation 1 hour prior to Mass @ church.

Moved to PA in Sept. of '18 to closer to my wife's siblings. Pretty well settled in, but still getting used to the smaller town atmosphere (sometimes literally when the use the "natural" fertilizer on the nearby farm fields). Moved from suburban Indianapolis where our little community was 50k+ people to a town where the population of the "greater metropolitan area" might stretch to 5,000. Great to see family more often though.
