I just got off the phone with Pat Ginter (nee Mimnaugh) and invited her to the Friday Night (28th) get together... she very enthusiastically accepted.  I think that several of you from that class (her first as a teacher), have the same wonderful memories of her as I, AND that you are attending our 50th. Hopefully we can share some memories with her during the reception.  Please confirm who you are, so Pat can find you in her albums .....  billbarishsm@aol.com  ...... see you Friday, September 28 !!!

It Seems Like Yesterday

It is very difficult to believe that it is now more than 50 years since I dreaded the English Regents Exam.

After hearing stories for the entire school year stories about Bobby and Grand Pa Krughoff from Mrs Krughoff I was very much afraid that the Board of Regents would not ask us for an essay about the two of them, they didn't.

Somehow despite that and the fact that I had not passed a single spelling test for the entire school year (spell all correctly or fail) I did manage to pass the exam (with a score greater than 80) to my relief and Mrs Krughoff's surprise.

I look forward to seeing you all in two weeks and having the opportunity to share stories of our lives.

September 10, 2012

I will not be able to fully participate in our upcoming reunion as I had open-heart surgery on September 5.  I am home in White Plains, five days post-op, and on the long road to recovery.

At this time I am not sure which functions I will be able to share with you folks, but this is not about me.

It is about the hard-working committee who has done a fabulous job planning and building toward the weekend that will be a blast for the participants. I am delighted to see the growing buzz created by the web site.

The activities will be very enjoyable, the renewal of acquaintances and friendships rewarding, and the events will be truly memorable.

Warm regards, Marc

[Neal's note: I have been friends with Marc for a long damn time and words cannot express how thrilled I am at the outcome of the surgery.  Marc, with his experience, has been my 'rabbi' on more parts of this reunion than there is space to hold them.  I ask that you keep your best wishes for him to email for a while. (His voice is even more tender due to some surgery tubing.)  I will pass along the latest news which I receive from his wife Linda.  Marc, from all of us, please get better FAST.]

Frans Seastrand is the Tiger Hunt WINNER !!!

CONGRATULATIONS!

It is with a big Tiger roar that we announce that Frans has won the Tiger Hunt contest.  He accumulated 79 points by a tireless submission of phone numbers and addresses.  Most of the 'found' names you see at the top of the Tiger Trail page were due to Frans' information.

Frans' Sherlock Holmes-like prowess is exceeded only by his generousity.  He has donated the prize of two Reunion Package tickets back to the committee for use by a classmate or two who could use them to attend where the Saturday night Gala is 'out of reach'.  Thank you Frans.

If you know of someone who could use them, or perhaps yourself, send an email to:

wphs62help@gmail.com

There is only one committee member processing this email account and information will be held in strictest confidence.  You can also take a look at the "Aid Available" page for more ways to help out.

Aloha, Ulla Britta Lindgren - Tommie's definitely coming to WPHS 62 50th

Hi Ulla,

You may not know this, but you were the first person I saw who ate yogurt!  I remember that at lunch time. I look forward to seeing you again.

Aloha hugs, Tommie

Random Thoughts

As we get closer to reunion, I find myself thinking more and more about going through elementary, jr. high and high school with all of you.  Some of you I knew well, some not at all.  But you know what?  It really doesn't matter.  We shared something special and made life-long friends.  Working on the Reunion Committee has been a remarkable experience.  I've been able to reconnect with friends whom I have not spoken to or seen since the day we walked out of the County Center.  What a trip!

I had a wonderful chat today with Robert Stanley, who taught me German for 3 years.  Bob is alive and well - although he will not be able to attend the Reunion, he sends his best wishes to the Class of '62.

Ida Wright sent a bunch of pictures she took at the 30th Reunion in '92.  I've posted them to the "Photos After WPHS to 2002" web page.  In looking at them, I realized that things like race relations and religious differences have come a long way since the '60s.  I think in our case, we didn't give a hoot what the color of a person's skin was or what house of worship we went to.  I was close with classmates like Charlie Jenkins, Alton Hilliard, Dave Ackerman, Andy Austin and Fred Flanagan.  You'll see the same kind of thing in Ida's pictures - we're all in this together.

I'll echo Bill Gould's comments from a few weeks ago.  Please come to the Reunion if you can, so we can all reconnect.
