  • Clovis West was one of only 280 schools across the country to be named a National Exemplary school for Excellence in Education. We were honored in a ceremony in our new baseball stadium.
  • At the opening Pep Rally, Niko King hiked up his pants and wore a backpack on both shoulders to play a geeky freshman, who was saved by a part-man-part-bat-part-eagle superhero (Tom Nabors).
  • Varsity Football players Brad Bell, Paul Blankenship, Kent Bishop and Chad Yager accepted the Range Rider Trophy on behalf of our team for their victory against Clovis High.
  • We spent weeks at Beth Selma's ranch stuffing tissue paper into a chicken wire frame made to look like the Space Shuttle, and our Homecoming float took First Place in the parade on game night.
  • Women's Swimming Coach, Susie Kelpe, sold 12 sets of men from our class to the highest bidders in the Senior Servant Auction to kick off Homecoming Week, (including Nathan Kokes and Isaac Birchall, who donned togas for their masters; Ryan Wells and Brandon Nicholson in boxers and mowhawks; clowns, Royce Hanamaikai and Travis Godden; Steve Gonzales and Dennis Tozlian as Mickey and Minnie Mouse; and Brad Bell and Kris Pollack who brought in a whopping $250!)
  • We voted for Homecoming King and Queen, Royce Hanamaikai and Kristen Rice, with Sarah Howe and Jennifer Sperling rounding out the court.
  • Julie McLaughlin, Kimber Faulkner, Matt Petrowsky, Jason Allen, Desirae Ynson, Sarah Howe, Brenda Moore, Tara Burch, Emilee DeGraw, Katharina Jones, Christine Kroeker, Kari Larson, Kristen Rice, Heather Rutherford, Brooke Sapp, George Smith, Jennifer Sperling, Vonnie Vostry, and Hollie Jones documented these events for our yearbook, the Olympiad.

  • We ran out of food on International Food Booth Day.
  • We checked the weather to see if it was going to be over 90 degrees so we could wear shorts.
  • We teased our bangs and permed our hair. Lots of us even had mullets.
  • Our Marching Band won the Sweepstakes Award in the Fiesta Bowl Band Competition in Tempe, AZ and celebrated all the way home with stops at the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas.
  • Ati Hakimi, Tania Bechara, Rick Bains, and Darlene Heatter captured our week-to-week triumphs and tribulations in the WEST PRESS, our school newspaper.
  • John Buretta and Julie Knight were stars on our Forensics and Debate team.
  • We sometimes spent Thursday lunches outdoors at the Brown Bag Theatre.
  • We crammed as many people as possible into our cars and ventured off-campus for 49 cent hamburgers at McDonald's or 59 cent tacos at T-Bell. For a change of pace, we ate at Fratelli's.
  • Beth Smith edited our student publication, The CW Torch.
  • Jason Holden was in a band called Heidi.
  • Aimee Durfee served as President of the CSF Honor Society.
  • Lara Weisiger kept us in line as the Student Body Speaker of the House.
  • Alyson Carr was great at pretty much everything.
  • We were members of the Choir and the Orchestra and Colorguard and Mock Trial and Key Club and Academic Decathlon and Jr. Larcs and Amnesty International and Ski Club and Hi-Debs and Peer Counseling and Block CW and sports teams of every variety -- and our Pep and Cheer squads cheered us on.
  • We cruised Blackstone and hung out at Johnny Quik.
  • We partied at the Dikes.
  • We ditched class a time or two.
  • We were lovely in our P.E. uniforms.
  • We worked at places like Von's and TCBY.
  • We got matching shirts, and girls asked their guys to Sadie Hawkins.
  • We clamored for dinner reservations at Nicola's, Harland's, or the Ripe Tomato on Prom Night.
  • We crowned Bobby Herman and Jenny Halbach King and Queen of the Prom, and danced the night away "Under the Paris Lights."
  • A crummy day could be made better by Isaac Grant's smile.
  • We loved any class Mr. Cleveland taught.
  • A few of us got suspended for posting a photocopy of an unnamed classmate's bare derriere with the handwritten warning, "Don't Do Crack," along-side the bus lists for Grad Night on the window of the Activities Office.
  • We tried not to fall asleep on the long bus ride home from Disneyland.
  • We didn't want the night to end.
  • We were still reeling from the losses of Mr. Keith Tice, Stephanie Murrietta, and Denise Reidel.
  • We treasured our friends.
  • We signed their yearbooks.
  • We knew all the words to "Forever Young," by Alphaville and couldn't get the tune out of our heads.
  • We congratulated class valedictorians, Alyson Carr, Aimee Durfee, Wendy Hoffman, Peter Johnson, Sandra Kim, and Cris Markos, and salutatorian, Emilee DeGraw.
  • Van Halen's, "Dreams" blared over the loud speakers at Clovis High's Lamonica Stadium as some 500 of us took those first steps off the bleachers, diplomas in hand, at graduation.
  • We said our good-byes and promised to keep in touch.
  • We had big dreams and big plans and imagined how the future would unfold.
