After high school, I received a BA from Washburn University in History and Anthropology. While at Washburn I became interested in computers. I then went to Dartmouth College where I received an MS in Computer Information Science.
After college, I worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY, where I met my husband, Kurt. We were married in June 1989, just before the ten year SHHS reunion, which I attended.
In 1990, we moved from New York to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. I wanted to be closer to my family in Kansas and we felt that Texas offered a great quality of life and many job opportunities. After we moved to Texas, I worked for Fidelity Investments doing data analysis and database design until 1997.
In September 1997, our daughter Kathleen was born. I quit work in order to stay home with her.
I missed the twentieth reunion in 1999 because I was nine months pregnant at the time. My son Kevin was born October 15th. Our third child, Rachel, was born in April 2002, just before my 41st birthday.
I am homeschooling my three children and I really enjoy it. I always enjoyed studying and doing school work. It is also great to be able to spend time teaching my children the Bible and Lutheran catechism.
From the time I was in my teens, I've had joint problems and the doctors tell me that I have some sort of genetic problem that affects my joints. One of the symptoms is being "double-jointed." I missed the 25th reunion in 2004 because I had total knee replacement for both knees about the same time as the reunion. I will soon need hip replacement and I also have problems with one of my ankles and a shoulder, all related to having "loose joints." I hope people won't be too shocked to see me using a walker or cane (I need to use one or the other depending on distance).
And yes, I've been asked (more than once) if my children are my grandkids. sigh . . .
I definitely plan to come to the reunion unless something unexpected comes up. I was sorry to miss the last two big reunions (20th and 25th).
