Copied from the 1987 NMB Yearbook:

Craig Sable died on Dec. 6 in a surfing accident. Sable and a friend, senior Steve Riechelson, were surfing at Boynton Beach early Saturday morning. The two were caught in a jetty and were pulled into an air pocket under it.

In an attempt to save Reichelson's and his own life, Sable told Reichelson to jump at the next swell. When they did, the current pulled Reichelson and Sable in opposite directions. Reichelson, told juniors Julia Mandel and Debbie Sheir to call for help because Sable was missing. "When the police from different townships arrived, they argued about whose jurisdiction the property was where the accident occurred, " said Riechelson

Police searched for Sable but did not recover his body until Dec. 9. The body was recovered under the jetty where Sable and Riechelson had been caught.

As a result of Sable's death, the classes of 1987. 1988 and 1989 wrote this poem in his memory:

Today it rains tears from our eyes;

We have to say our last goodbyes.

Today Craig's soul is set free;

Sent to a place where we are afraid to be.

Today we have to let his body go;

The sadness we feel.

No one will ever know.

Today he's flying on an angel's wing:

Death is such a scary thing,

Today all our good times end:

But in our hearts he will always

be our classmate and friend!
