LOOK WHO WE'VE BECOME

OK, 30 years of history. I was forced - dragging and kicking - to leave Kansas for Houston, Texas in the middle of my junior year and finished high school there. I went to the University of Texas in Austin for 3 years thinking law school was my future. I worked for a firm as a clerk and decided the law was not for me. Money ran out so I dropped out of school and delivered beer for a year before entering the US Army. I served in the Infantry for 10 years, starting off as an enlisted soldier and non-commissioned officer. I served at Fort Carson, CO and then spent 5 years in Germany which was fantastic. While in Germany I finished two degrees - a BA in English and a MS in Organization Behavior. I was accepted into Officer Candidate School and received a commission also in the Infantry. I served at Fort Benning, GA until deploying to the first Gulf War (Operation Desert Shield and Storm) as a Mechanized Infantry officer. I met my wife, Donna, while serving in the war - her brother was my Forward Observer for Artillery. We exchanged letters and audio tapes.

We met in person when I returned from Saudi Arabia/Iraq, dated, and got married. I left the military due to injuries sustained that prevented me from staying in the Infantry. I went into the training and development field based on some work I had done while serving in the military. I worked for a bank as a training consultant until, in 1999, I started on my own as an independent consultant. I complete projects related mostly to instructional design, performance improvement consulting, technical writing, etc. Donna and I started our own corporation, called MTK Learning (the "MTK" ate the first initials of our three daughters' names), that focuses on the same work.

Donna and I live in Jacksonville, Florida and have three girls - Mandi (16), Tori (11), and Kati (6). Until this past year we have home-schooled all three girls. Mandi started in a Catholic high school this year as she prepares for college. We enjoy traveling alot which we have done depending on where my contracts are located. I like to spend time in my kayak whenever I can. We also spend quite a bit of time in church-related activities.

That's basically it ... life has been a journey with lots of ups and downs. I always have fond memories, though, of Kansas and the time I spent there. I miss the weather, the people. I probably will not be able to make the reunion, but will be thinking of you. It brought back a lot of memories just seeing the names!
