"And are we yet alive to see each others face?"
My prayer is that you "Remember the Gators of 1974" in its sound victory over racial conflict endured by little black girls and white boys seeking to answer the desegregation mandate.
The Gators of 1974 are worthy of remembrance as this was the year God chose to begin bringing racial healing. Long before Coach Lee Hedges led the Gators to victory as Football State Champs in Louisiana there was a spirit of unity that began resting upon Faculty and students alike.
From student government to Key Clubs and Z-Clubs; from Homecoming Court to Pep Squad and Cheerleading; from Jr. R.O.T.C. to School Announcer (where I served) there was a clear reckoning in favor of racial equality.
As we approach our 35th Reunion let's not settle for racial indifference. Let us reclaim our inheritance of unity so that people will Always and Forever "Remember the Gator 1974."
Agape' (Greek: God Is)
