I got married in August of 1978 and we moved to Savannah, MO, because (much to my disappointment) my husband could not find a job in Topeka so that I could continue to work at SHHS. We have lived in Savannah for 31 years. My husband (a landscape architect) found a job in St. Joseph, MO, which is about 15 minutes from Savannah. I worked in a bank for three months before taking a job as a cost accountant and accounts receivable clerk at Seitz Foods in St. Joseph. I worked there for three and half years. We then started our family so I stayed at home to raise our two daughters. I did, however, do some substitute teaching for eight years while the girls were young. When the youngest one entered first grade I accepted a job teaching business at Savannah High School. I will start my 18th year this fall. In that time I have also taken on the sponsorship of National Honor Society and I've been the assistant volleyball coach for 10 years. Occasionally we have been in a tournament with the SHHS volleyball team--have seen some impressive players from SHHS. In 2001 my husband and I purchased the Landscape Nursery that he has worked at since graduating from college. We have been business owners for eight and one half years, but I'm still not giving up teaching just yet. Our oldest daughter is married and our youngest is engaged and will marry the summer of 2010.
