After hearing from Bob Stechschulte and Fred Pirochta on the very same day that I had not sent my biography for the website, I knew it was time to put on paper what has happened in the last 50 years. I have read all your bio’s and enjoyed catching up with the class of 1959. Like all of you, it is difficult to believe how time has flown by…….
After graduation, Central Michigan University was my home for two years, followed by working for Midland Ross in Owosso as assistant to the comptroller until I married Bob Twomley (Class of 1958) in June of 1962. We have three children (Bobby – 46 years old, Mike – 44 and Katie – 42) and raised them in Flushing, Michigan. When they all left for college we sold the family home and moved to a condominium in Flint to fulfill a residency requirement when Bob took a principal ship with the Flint Community Schools. When he retired in 1995 we moved to the Linden/Fenton area where I plan to stay until it is time for the nursing home!
During most of those years I worked for Flushing Community Schools, first at the high school as secretary, and then I moved to the Administration Building in Personnel and ended my career as secretary to the Superintendent. After 23 years with Flushing Community Schools, I retired in 1999.
Retirement is wonderful! We spend several weeks every year in California visiting Kate and her family, a few weeks in summer at the cottage (in Clare County), with the remaining time being spent with the boys and their families (both live here). I am an avid reader, knitter and gardener (but must admit my perennial garden is getting smaller in recent years, the body can’t take it anymore). I’m also involved at St John’s in a bible study class that I love and helping with funeral lunches and “Applefest”. It has been a great way to meet people and make new friends.
We have six grandchildren, ages 13 to 8 years old. They are a delight! Bob and Cheryl have Kelsey (10) and Robert (8). Mike and Suzanne have Christopher (10) and David (9). Kate and Anthony have Meaghan (13) and Gracie (8). Our kids did everything in bunches for us with all of them being married within an 18 month period and giving us our first grandchild, and then 3 years later giving us 5 more grandchildren within another 18 month period! They had no mercy! Being with family is the best part of life.
God has been good to us! I wouldn’t change a thing, except maybe not having gained 20+ pounds. I would tell you that I am going on a diet, but it’s not going to happen! I am so looking forward to seeing all of you in September.
