Hi all! Looking forward to seeing folks at our 50th Reunion! I can mark my life as before the 20th Reunion and after.
Before: Got my BA at Simmons and my Ph.D. in American and British Literature at University of Colorado. I returned to DC to teach and have been at George Washington University since 1989, teaching my special authors course on William Faulkner and Toni Morrison, a course on new plays, and American Literature since 1865, using psychoanalytic and trauma theory in my research. I’ve been President of the Toni Morrison Society for the past five years and it has been an incredible journey. With two books, on Faulkner and Morrison, I am now enjoying life as Professor of American Literature (shout out to Mr. Morgan!!).
After: Scott Schreiber and I re-met at the 20th Reunion and married in 1989. We’ve raised two incredible boys, Michael, a movie producer in LA, married to Jenny, who works for ABC TV, and Eric, a development manager at Microsoft in Seattle, married to Tera, a writer and attorney, who have blessed us with three beautiful granddaughters (14, 11, and 9). Needless to say, we are frequent fliers to the west coast. Scott and I have been able to travel extensively through South America, Europe and Eastern Europe. Last year during my Sabbatical leave, we did two “bucket list” trips, spending January in Australia and New Zealand, and then March in Chile and Argentina, including a 20-mile hike in Patagonia to Torres del Paine. Much of Asia awaits! After several “roots” trips to Lithuania, Poland, Odessa, and the Ukraine, Scott and I took the 19-week course at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum so we could be certified to lead educational tours of the Permanent Exhibit for special groups (FBI, law enforcement, State Department, ICE, foreign dignitaries, school groups). This volunteer work has been one of the most rewarding experiences for us on intellectual, emotional, and personal levels. Scott and I share a love of theater, and he served the past four years as President of the Woolly Mammoth Theater, so we are both very involved with Woolly events, including theater trips to London, New York, Chicago, and a week’s conference with international directors in Budapest. We’ve been lucky to have good health and work out regularly in the hopes of staying fit and active. We both still love our work, but look forward to some point in the near future where we will begin our next adventure called retirement! Many thanks to Woodrow Wilson ’66 and our Reunions!
